In this picture the main character Amari and her younger brother Kwasi are fleeing through the forest from their burning village. A fellow tribe called the Ashanti joined forces with the foreign invaders(white men) to annihilate Amari’s village, by killing the weak, burning their huts and taking the healthy villagers captive. To create the terrifying, and dark tone of this moment I created a forest in which Amari and her brother are running through the forest with the burning village in the background. The trees that Amaria and her brother are running past are darker, and almost dead compared to the trees in the distance. This is to foreshadow darkness, and death are in Amari’s future. The book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper is a story about two completely different teenage girls that cross paths as slaves and have to ban together to survive this new cruel world. I thought this book was fantastic because even in the beginning it hits you with the cruel reality of things that really happened back then. Throughout the book I got attached to the two main characters, I felt for them. On page 12 is when the first heart jerking scene happens. The villagers greet the white men with open arms by dancing, but soon realise the white men have other plans. This scene is very intense and hit me hard.
