One of the best novels I have ever read was Copper Sun, by Sharon M. Draper. It was about a fifteen-year-old girl who was stolen from her village, trying to escape slavery and be freed. I chose this book because it was very empowering, uplifting, and emotional. It literally changed my emotions throughout every chapter. I love this book because it emphasizes and represents the hardships, trials, and tribulations most Africans had to go through during the times of slavery. From being stolen from their village, packed on one ship with several strangers, raped, beaten, and worked to death, it was all captured through one character of the book. Her name is Amari.
