One of the major topics is the consideration of what roles the CHN would fill in such an event.
One role that would be critical in this case is the CHN's role in disease and injury prevention (Canadian Public Health Association, 2010). The CHN must focus on preventing further outbreak and transmission of communicable diseases; this is extremely important in the case of STIs such as syphilis. Contact tracing is an important task that must be completed within this role, and since that is difficult in the instance described in the article, it is the responsibility of the CHN to find alternative methods of controlling the disease. In this role, the CHN will also advise members of the public to make changes in their lives that will aid in reducing transmission of the disease, in this case doing things such as educating them regarding condom use, accessing condoms, and practicing safe
