One role that would be critical in this case is the CHN's role in disease and injury prevention (Canadian Public Health Association, 2010). The CHN must focus on preventing further outbreak and transmission of communicable diseases; this is extremely important in the case of STIs such as syphilis. Contact tracing is an important task that must be completed within this role, and since that is difficult in the instance described in the article, it is the responsibility of the CHN to find alternative methods of controlling the disease.
