The book ‘No Ordinary Time’ by Doris Kearns Goodwin provides an exclusive historical approach to the lives of the power couple; President Franklin Roosevelt and his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. It cruises through their relationship, personalities and how they managed to lead America through a series of crises. The book concentrates more on the historical period between May 10th, 1940 and April 12th, 1945. Its title is derived from the speech made by Mrs. Roosevelt during the National Democratic Convention in the year 1940. The five year period dates back to the end of World War II. During this time, the couple changed America for the better and made it emerge a superpower country. The war was against superior countries like Japan, Germany, Italy, and The Great Britain. He also ended the worst crisis in American history through what is known as the New Deal. In this deal, Roosevelt made financial reforms like the regulation of taxes which helped America out of the great depression. Some of the traits attributed to Roosevelt are his intelligence and self-confidence. His wife Eleanor also played a great role. She created the 1948 contract of freedom. Mrs. Roosevelt advocated for the rights of women, Black-Americans, and the people who worked during the depression era. She ensured that they were equally treated. Just like her husband, she was a confident, outspoken and strong-willed woman. She is celebrated for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
