Druse 's expression was as if it had been paralyzed from the moment the shot was fired. The sergeant 's look of bewilderment was soon replaced with a grim downcast. He spoke in a very hushed manner, "I 'll arrange for a proper burial immediately." The gloomy atmosphere was broke by Druse 's abrupt response, "Don 't," he paused briefly as if he was contemplating, "he was a confederate soldier, so bury him like one." The way he said it sounded as if he was trying to convince himself of the decision more so than his superior. The sergeant twisted his face in frustration, "It 's your decision," he reluctantly complied. The sky darkened as the sun slowly settled on the horizon, which seemingly stretched out for infinity. A Federal soldier squinted as the brilliant sun rays blinded him. "Are you going to help me or just stand there?" His comrade interrupted the soldiers daydreaming. "Sorry about that Henry," the soldier wiped the sweat from his forehead and continued digging. He stopped digging for a moment, "Does he look familiar to you?" Dust frantically escaped the area at the sound of a hoarse and wet cough echoing through the large bedroom. The cough came from a frail old woman with mousey brown hair, swallowed up in the center of her large bed. A knock on the door came, "May I come in?" A sweet voice called from the other side of the door. "Come in," she struggled to cough out the words. A young black lady enters, she has on a simple wardrobe with her hair tied back in a bun. "A letter came I 'm for you." The old sickly lady struggled to form a smile. "Could you read it to me?" Her voice crackled. The maid nodded, immediately ripping open the letter.
