The three articles about a man called Edward Bracey that killed a police officer back in 1991 was on trial for the death sentence but a judge throw it out because the man was mentally disabled. With all the evidence of Edward Bracey being mentally disabled, my opinion is that Judge Sarmina made the right decision in throwing out the death sentence. A person that is mentally disabled is capable of hurting themselves and someone else when not being treated by a doctor. A mentally disabled person without being on the proper medication can do things without their control. The justice system should have ways in controlling people that are mentally disabled, when a court system rules that a person is mentally disabled they should have ways in making sure that person is not a harm to society but from the first time of conviction. A mentally disabled person needs to be under the care of a physician. The consequences of not being in the care of a doctor can be dangerous. A doctor is able to discuss with the person what their options in treating them, offer therapy and simply make the person aware that they need treatment. Some people don’t even know something is wrong with them. Mentally disabled people should be on medication at all times. It helps them think better, it also makes them not feel different from everyone else. In my opinion if Edward Bracey was on medication he wouldn’t have killed that cop he says in the article he was sorry and says “It should have never happened. I wish it had never happened.” (Brennan 2) He didn’t mean to kill anybody he was very stressed at the time as a mentally disabled person his thoughts and everything going through his mind he could not make the right
