Ender’s Game, written by Orson Scott Card, is about about a young boy named Ender Wiggin. He is a six year old, bullied, and stuck with the awful fate of being a ‘third’. Until a man called Graff, the man in charge of Battle School and soon to be Ender, shows up at Ender’s house and invites Ender to become a launchie at Battle School. Ender goes through isolation, struggle, and of course a lot of wins to become a commander then go on to command school and finally commanding his own fleet, defeating the enemy, the buggers. The characters in this story that have major influence on Ender Wiggin are Valentine (Ender’s sister), Peter (Ender’s brother), Colonel Graff, Mazer Rackham, and Ender’s fleet. Valentine has a special place in Ender’s heart. She is able to ground Ender, when he feels like he is done with Battle School, she convinces him to continue. Peter also has a certain spot in within Ender, which he despises. Ender can not control his anger or fights, which is why the two people that approached him he killed and Ender fears that he is becoming ‘Peter’. When Ender was younger Peter threatened to kill Ender and antagonized him all his childhood years. Throughout the book Ender has to constantly battle his dark Peter-like personality against his cunning, calm personality. Once Ender reached Command School his new teacher became Mazer Rackham. Mazer was the only person to defeat the buggers, and having Mazer as his mentor really shows Ender that he too can defeat them. colonel Graff isolated Ender from the get go which made things tough on Ender as well. The invasion is the whole reason for the book. Ender is put through hell because Graff believes he is the one that is capable of defeating the buggers. At the end of the book, Ender believes he is playing a fake invasion on a game with his fleet but, in reality he defeats the buggers with the tactics that he geniously comes up with. One difference being that in the book Ender proves himself by being violent and killing those that bully him like Bonzo, and Stilson. but in the movie, both Bonzo and Stilson live. keeping them alive does not give Ender the same murderer effect that you get from the book, really seeing Ender’s violent side. A second difference is that in the book we are introduced to ender at age 6, very young while in the movie we see Ender at teenage years from the start. In the book when you see a six year old at Battle School achieving such great things you think he is a super, genius almost unbelievable. But when you see him as a teenager it is more believable. The main difference between the book and movie is Locke and Demosthenes. Locke and Demosthenes are two personas that Valentine and Peter Wiggin use via the internet to try to shape the world you see in the book. They get into politics and influence a lot of people back on Earth. While in the movie Locke and Demosthenes aren't even included. Valentine and Peter barely even play a role in the
