Have you ever wondered if America is going in the proper political direction? The articles “American Psychosis,” by Chris Hedges, and “Engaging Apolitical Adolescents,” by Melissa Ames, have contrasting views and opinions about how pop culture is expressed through young adult’s political views and interest. Hedges explains why he thinks that reality TV shows- among others- are destroying this country. Hedges uses harsh and critical phrasing to evoke a deep emotional response in the reader. Ames, on the other hand, references the rise of dystopian novels after 9/11, and the fact that the “total vote has increased consistently throughout the past four presidential elections” (4 Ames).
According to the website dictionary.com a Dystopia can be defined as, “a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding” (Random House). Teens nowadays feel many emotions and think many thoughts. Some feel trapped and they like to get out by reading books. Young adults can relate to dystopian books a lot more than many other books because the characters in the novels feel the same way as the readers do. Anthem can especially relate to teens because i is about a man who feels trapped in his world and just wants knowledge and to find his own love. He wants what he wants for him not for the good of the society in the book.
As the Latino population of the United States continues to burgeon, so does its influence in all aspects of American society. The far-reaching influence of Latinos has exploded in the past few decades, with 17% of the U.S. population who identify as Latino controlling over $1.5 trillion USD in spending power. A section of society where Latino influence continues to rise is in the American political process and the formation of public policy. Latinos have managed to fill a vacant position in nearly every spot of government, culminating with a U.S. Latino holding a crucial stake in a fierce battle for the presidency. As Latinos continue to grow in size and influence, attention should be invested in promoting civic engagement and enhancing political representation of Latinos at all levels of government.
The young generation are doomed, they say. Honestly, it hurts me to say that I agree to a certain extent. The media itself portrays young adults as individuals who couldn’t give a damn about politics. Personally, I try to stay as far away from politics as possible, even though it affects me most.

There have been numerous proposals for structural changes that could increase voter turnout. Past research has addressed voter mobilization. However, the core of our motivations rests on how we care about politics and turn-out-to-vote issues. These motivations necessitate further analysis and at minimum, 90% of the registered voters should be able to vote on general and midterm elections, regardless of the election’s popularity and perceived influence. It should be noted that gubernatorial elections and the election of the House of Representatives and the Senate directly affects a citizen’s life more than the presidential election does.
