Throughout Chapters 14-17, Jon Krakauer tends to walk in Chris’s footsteps, trying to mimic Chris’s difficult journey. I think the approach of alternating between Chris’s journey and his is very successful in that the audience is able to better visualize Chris’s journey. For instance, Krakauer writes about his relationship with his father and the striking similarities that this relationship has with Chris’s insufficient relationship with his father, Walt. This instance helps the reader understand that Chris was not the only individual who was deeply afflicted by his father’s action and decided to throw his relationship with his father in the waste bin. Rather, by describing Krakaeur’s own experiences as a youth, he wishes his readers to understand

This novel is based around the Creighton family, more importantly based around the nine year old son, Jethro Creighton. As the title states, this novel covers the five Aprils of the Civil war, April 1861 through April 1865.

Chris’ relationship with Walt was not very good but was not very bad. Walt was able to give money to Chris whenever he needed. Once Chris find out that he was still with another women to whom he was married to he did not have a good relationship wit him. Out of the six chapters, I prefer to write about Chapter One: The Duel and Chapter Two: The Dinner. This book was very intriguing and helped to understand the post-revolutionary America and the lives of the founding brothers and what they went through. Chapter One: The Duel was a well-known duel in American history. Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. July 11, 1804 is the exact date when the duel happened.
In “I Just Wanna Be Average,” Mike Rose explains the experience being part of a school system that had no prior knowledge to have educators to teach students. Rose supports his claims by describing the different situations he had to encounter with the lack of the school system, the hopelessness of the teachers and his peers, that lead those students with no support to lead them in a direction of success. Rose purpose is to point out that; all that it was needed was a teacher that cared enough to teach and to influence those students to succeed and to never hinder the student’s learning experience because anything is possible with an little of an encouragement. In the summary, “I just wanna be Average”, by Mike rose conveys his readers about some of his experiences throughout school. In truth, Mike Rose anything but average. In his freshman year, he got put into vocational program by accident. Even though by accident, he made the best of his situation. He then explains how his teacher resorted to verbal discipline to keep them in line.
In the story “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris. He writes about a personal experience in where he was attending a French class and was mistreated by the teacher. Sedaris explains how the teacher would make fun of the students and the mistakes they would make. Through the story Sedaris, paints a picture of how he felt whenever his teacher would insult every student’s introduction to the class without making a fool of ourselves. He wanted the audience to know that when someone tries to bring you down you do not let yourself and being yourself back up.

In Michelle Alexander’s talk, she described how discrimination becomes legalized once individuals become branded as a felon. As a result of a felony conviction, tons of offenders lose their right to vote, right to serve on jury, right to be free on legal discrimination regarding housing, and access to education. These restrictions connect to the systems of privilege, as it reinforces the stigma against felons while the social power of law enforcement agencies rises. The systems of privilege get maintained with the use of social control. According to statistics that Alexander gathered, African American males were the ones mostly affected by the felon disenfranchisement laws.
Component 1: Writing Analysis Growth Narrative Throughout the semester growth can be seen in my writing from the Into the Wild prep work that demonstrates my starting point to the final Into the Wild Essay that demonstrates my improvement. The prep work was one of the very first assignments of the year and I particularly struggled within the section “Reasoning” and more specifically, “building my language through cause and effect language.” After writing this assignment, I wanted to focus on building a more articulate analysis through my reasoning by using “if/then” statements. My first draft contained the statement, “Krakauer’s repetition of the word “relieved,” indicates how isolation was comforting to McCandless (55).
The lives of several Japanese Canadians were influenced negatively by the policies of the Canadian government. For example, numerous Japanese Canadians were forced to leave their homes and possessions due to the fear of white Canadians towards the Japanese during the Second World War. British Columbia was the most opposing province in Canada against the Japanese community because local economic competitors wanted to remove Japanese locals from the economic competition. In this paper, I will argue that we ought to consider the hardships that the Japanese community encountered during the Second World War in Canada as Muriel Kitagawa’s “This Is My Own” provides insight to significant challenges and struggles of Japanese Canadians in terms of their social class and racial issues.
In the article “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lemott she discusses how every writer has difficulty putting their ideas on paper because writing should be seen as a process that even the best and famous writers follow. She also talks about how even the best writers don’t just come with ideas and just begin writing on paper and make it as their final draft. Lemott also points out the importance of being able to just write down every thought into the first draft regardless of the structure of the draft and how it makes it easier to start the second draft. After writing the second draft it makes the final draft a review of punctuation and grammar corrections. As a food reviewer she struggled putting her ideas together because she would start doubting
