As the boom from the transatlantic slave trade was being put into a question of universal humanity and morality, millions of Africans were still being sold into a life of victimhood. Amongst those millions were freemen being stripped from their homes, because of their race, in the core and coastal regions of Africa. The Neirsee Incident occurred on, “January 21st, 1828” at a “British owned palm oil house near old Calabar” (Blaufarb and Clarke 71). The Neirsee as it was stopped at the port near the British owned palm oil house, was interrupted by a character name Feraud who “slipped out of old Calabar on the Neirsee”, where the ship was eventually seized after it had, “just loaded its human cargo” (Blaufarb and Clarke 72). The incident had led to innocent British citizens lives being sold into the slave trade.
Books express who the author is or who they want to be. They show the imagination and, sometimes, the difficulties of the author’s life. In Bad Boy, by Walter Dean Myers, the author shows the difficulties in his life and how he overcame those obstacles in the shape of a memoire. While I appreciate the truths about the world told in Bad Boy, and the uncensored quality while addressing racial issues, I am not too fond of this book. I definitely do not hate Bad
The main character in the story Monster, written by Walter Dean Myers, is a sixteen-year old named Steve Harmon. Steve Harmon is an African-American teen on trial for a terrible crime. He is being accused of being a lookout in the crime. Steve has many strong characteristics that are shown throughout the story. A few of those characteristics are feeling scared, having an identity crisis, and being a filmmaker.
Do you get along better with a certain parent more than you do with the other. For example, maybe you get along with your mother more than you get along with your father because she is more understanding. In the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers the main character is named Steve Harmon. He is in court because he is being accused of being involved in the murder of a drugstore owner, Mr. Nesbitt. Steve’s parents each visit Steve at different times, and both have different views on whether he is guilty or innocent.
The book “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers tells the story of a young African American aggressive boy, Walter who gets in multiple fights but uses the art of poetry, reading, and writing as an outlet. Walter Dean Myers is not just a boy who likes to fight he is an excellent poet and writer but struggles with speech problems which leads to his teachers, family, and friends to think he is not bright. Walter was moved up classes due to his impeccable writing, the only thing holding him back after reaching the higher class was his speech. Walter knew that his speech problems would be in the center of his life and effect what he does in life.
Many authors convey powerful, civil messages through novels. Walter Dean Myers does that through his novel, Monster. Monster is a story about young sixteen-year-old, Steve Harmon, who is on trial for being an accessory in a murder-robbery. The novel is written in a first person “movie style” that encompasses all of his emotions in a scene by scene setting. Myers brings out a theme of racism through multiple scenes in the novel.
Freakonomics is somewhat random grab bag of topics. The unifying theme of this book for me was finding ways to ask questions so that one's available statistics and data can provide an answer, time after time they used available statistics to provide some time of reasoning or answers to the question being asked. Some of these efforts were more successful than others. Some of the questions Levitt and Dubner study felt unnecessary, that no one really cares about. But there are also some good subjects.
With Ponyboy and Johnny being the nice kids they are the tell Dallas to leave them along making get upset and leaving. After that the girls hang around with them for awhile until their boyfriends show up drunk and angry that two other guys are talking to their girls. The girls go home with them and Ponyboy and Johnny leave. Later that night they run into them again and they remember them starting a fight. Bob one of the Socs gets killed in the fight by Johnny in fear that he was going to kill Ponyboy.
Romero intentionally targets consumer culture and capitalist economics by setting the majority of Dawn of the Dead in a shopping mall, using both the unusual setting and the symbolic zombies to offer a mordacious critique of contemporary 1970s American society (Bishop 2010: 234). Storytelling can be described as a powerful tool, with the ability to reach many different individuals and affect their perspectives through the messages they are conveying. Narratives in a similar sense can have perverse effects on human consciousness, leaving impacts of how we think, feel, imagine, remember and relate. Mitchell states that popular fiction is important to society as it contains many important messages that can be disguised as social transformation or ideological revisioning due to the large and diverse audience that it is able to reach (Mitchell, 2012). The focus will be to examine four different popular fiction narratives from this term and the important messages within them that aid or encourage some aspect of social transformation.
Okonkwo Falls Apart Chinua Achebe offers a rare look at the natives perspective during colonialism in his work Things Fall Apart. The central struggle in the main character Okonkwo is that he is beginning to lose his way of life, and he is not able to do anything about it. Conflicts in religious beliefs with the arrival of the missionaries heightens Okonkwo 's internal aggression, and his inability to adapt leads to his downfall.
Finally, once they are caught Annie Dillard points out; “He chased us through the backyard labyrinths of ten blocks before he caught us by our jackets. He caught us and we all stopped. We three stood staggering, half blinded, coughing, in an obscure hilltop backyard; a man in his twenties, a boy, a girl. He had released our jackets, our pursuer, our captor, our hero; He knew we weren’t going anywhere. We all played by the rules”.

Girl, Interrupted, written by Susanna Kaysen in 1967, is a thought provoking memoir following her and fellow parents’ tragic and twisted experiences in McLean Mental Hospital. As a young adult Susanna Kaysen tried to commit suicide by swallowing a bottle of pills and following it with a bottle of alcohol. Her parents were very worried about her and suggested her to go to a doctor that her dad once knew. Kaysen visited the doctor who, after talking to her for a while, requested that she be sent to one of the best mental hospitals in her area. She had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Suddenly there’s moaning and snarling coming from outside look and there’s a giant horde of zombies. Survivors need to know what to do? People need to know what zombies are. Zombies’ brain eat monsters that came out of the ground.
