Imagine having to be so embarrassed about where you are fro0m that you wanted to turn into a completely white person. Imagine having everyone telling you that your dreams are not going to come true. This imaginary world exists in a wild memoire by Eddie Huang. Eddie Huang mouth watered as soon as he gets a bite of a delicious dish that his mom made. He had devoured a dish like this for a long time. The food was so good that it made him forget the fact that he wanted to be white so bad. He wants more than what is expected of him. Eddie wants a chance to show to the world that he has what it takes to be successful. Eddie does not care if people like what he serves, what he wants is “opportunities outside the kitchens and cubicles” (Huang 208). Eddie is working his way up to the top and wants more chances, which illustrates why he should be remembered because while others just dream of being at the “top” and do nothing to get there, eddie is committed to his work and keeps proving to everyone that he is ready to move up. Eddie also has a successful restaurants. Eddie’s life changed after he opened a restaurant called Baohouse. Success came with the opening of “Baohaus” which includes “everyone’s favorite, the pork-belly buns” (Huang 212). Everyone loves the pork-belly buns, which demonstrates why Eddie should be remembered because it is the best pork-belly buns ever according to many people. He is influenced by his culture a lot. Huang’s influence in getting into the food business is his culture food. Taiwanese has a strict rule about serving meat and he also believes that “It should simply be the standard that [they] serve all natural meat” (Huang 178). The fact that he is influenced by his culture to make food proves why he should be remembered because even though he was born in America, he still shows love for Taiwanese culture, where his parents are from. Also, Eddie understand how his culture might be viewed differently to other people,but he still talks about his culture. If you grow up in an immigrant culture, there are many things you do “that people just don’t get” (Huang 142). The fact that he believes his culture should not be criticized proves why he should be remembered because he is fighting for something he believes in against many people, which not many people do.
