Hanging Fire Hanging Fire is a poem that written by Audre Lorde, and it was published in the 1978 collection The Black Unicorn. The poem has been reprinted in several literary anthologies, such as the Norton Introduction to Literature. The author Audre Lorde described herself as lesbian, mother, black, warrior and a poet. Hanging fire is about a teenage girl who had some problem with herself and with her mother. In this poem shows how she feels alone, lonely, and worry. However, there are some elements in this poem should be mentioned such as the form, theme, and symbols of the poem. This poem is written in a free verse. It does not have a regular rhyme scheme. It is not written in the form of a tight. However, this does not mean that the poem is formless. Hanging Fire is composed of three stanzas. Each stanza with eleven or twelve lines and the lines of this poem is short. Most of the lines are composed of seven words. And at the end of each stanza of this poem there is this phrase "and momma's in the bedroom with the door closed".
