In the extremely passionate memoir Her: A Memoir, written by Christa Parravani, a young lady facing hard times tragically dies, and her identical twin sister strains to survive. Two identical sisters -- Christa and Cara Parravani, always shared a bond, greater than friendship, and sisterhood itself. Despite their rough childhood including being raised by a single mother, and being raped as a young adult (Clara), the two sisters were able to attend good colleges and get more than satisfactory jobs. The memories of their troubled childhood made Cara depressed, which led her to drugs and finally a tragic death at a young age, which Christa is determined to keep from happening to her. It all starts, with her and her twin Cara. They share a bond like nothing else, a bond that can’t be broken. Their father was very abusive and violent. They live in a place where all that happened is fighting, beating, and arguing. Everybody’s lives get twisted out of place when Clara gets raped. Despite being scarred for life, her bond with her sister also lessens. Clara begins to sheer to a bad life, as she begins self-harming, drinking, and doing drugs. Her intake gradually gets higher and higher to the point where something extremely pivotal happens… Clara dies. Clara’s demise has a very large influence on Christa, for specific reasons. First of all, their sisterly bond is shattered by death. Secondly, Christa reads in a magazine article that if something happened to one twin, there is a 50% chance that it will happen to the other. They shared a very strong bond, which is shown throughout the book. The quote, “I spent all my free time with her, away from friends and away from my husband,” illustrates this point. It really uncovers how great their relationship was when she chooses her over her husband and her friends. The first couple of chapters explicate Cara and Christa’s physical features, and how they share not only physical features, but also many interests. It also explains how they worked together to take pictures, Cara the model and Christa the photographer. Photography wasn’t the only activities they did together, but she definitely states that it is one she will never forget. The two sisters did basically everything together, which is what makes the story so tragic when their great bond is torn by
