Summary Of Homeless Bird

Homeless Bird:

This book was about a girl named Koly. She was the main character. The book talks all about her life and when she got older. In the beginning of the book Koly was living in her house with her two siblings witch where her two brothers. Koly’s siblings would go to school but she did not go to school with them. The mother of Koly would teach Koly things she could do around her house. Koly was taught how to make a quilt and on the quilt Koly would put pictures of her family and also pictures of things around her house. Koly got married a bit later in the book to a guy named Hari. In the book it said that in the Indian culture if you get married you basically send your will to the family of the husband. Hari the boy had one sister

In the beginning before they had gotten married Koly was informed that Hari had the flu. This was really not the truth. Koly later had to find out on her own that he had pneumonia. Finally she saw that he got married to her because of the money that the son’s family gets from the wife’s family when they get married in the Indian culture. The family of Hari needed the money to help him. They used the money to send Hari to a holy river that was supposed to help with the illness. The family did not want the girl to come along on their trip but she has come along because Hari wanted her there. During there time in a city that had the holy river was in they stayed at a friends home. Later the family had two people go and let Hari in the river. Then the same night they realized the river had made Hari’s illness worse because it might have been cold. That night Hari had passed away because of the fact that his illness became worse. The family had went back and after a couple weeks their daughter was going to get married to someone. Koly wanted to help the girl get ready for her marriage and she was not allowed because she was counted as a lesser person because that’s how they look at you there once

The mother of Hari decided to sell the farm they lived on and go to her brother’s home. Both Hari’s mother and Koly got a ticket and went to Hari’s mom’s family’s home. Once they got there they reached a city/ town that had the people that were counted as lesser because there husband died there on the street. Those people were all over city. They went to the city and got a ride from one of the drivers to a temple. After when they made it to the temple Hari’s mom gave Koly money and said to Koly to go out to one of the stands and get a certain food. Then when Koly got back the lady was gone. She looked all over and still did not find her. Once she saw the driver she saw before she was lucky to see him because that was the only person she knew since the mother left her. Koly had to sleep on the street in front of homes. One of the places she stayed at there was a lady that was on the street too and she told Koly how she got there. The house they slept in front of would usually give the rest of their food to the people outside their door step. When Koly woke up she saw the lady that was on the door step at night was gone. Then a few days past and Koly kept talking to the boy driver when
