Many of us enjoy fast food restaurants because they are quick, cheap and the food is appeasing to our taste buds. It would be very hard for many of us to turn down junk food for veggies. In the article, How Junk Food Can End Obesity, David H. Freedman presents, “Demonizing processed food may be dooming many to obesity and disease. Could embracing the drive-thru make us all healthier?” Freedman believes in the process of making prepackaged foods healthier. He uses his personal experience of drinking a healthy smoothie versus a fattening and unhealthy smoothie to compare which drink is more appeasing to the taste buds. Michael Pollen states, “The food they’re cooking is making people sick.” He believes the fast-food industry has knowingly addicted us to sugar, fats and other artificial ingredients. Pollen solution is to replace processed-food manufacturers with fresh, unprocessed, local, seasonal, real food (Freedman 508). Freedman argues that Pollen does not comprehend the reality of encouraging people to change their eating habits. He supports his criticism against Pollen by comparing wholesome foods and junk foods.
