In the Book Down the Rabbit Hole the Former star of the television show The Girls Next Door and one of Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriends discusses her time in the playboy mansion. Holly had become Hugh’s girlfriend by 2002 but in the process had lost her sense of self. She became Depressed and at one point even borderline suicidal as she dealt with the toxic life within the mansion. Hugh Hefner’s seven live in girlfriends often fought with each other for attention and fame. So when holly had thoughts of killing herself the only thing keeping her alive was knowing that one day she would tell her story. In writing this memoir Holly Madison instead of focusing on the sex culture it would seem she lived in, focuses on the money and power of show business and its corruption. As mentioned earlier holly felt the need to get breast implants and a rhinoplasty. This was do to the fact that she didn't make the cut on her first tryout for playboy, but did make it after altering herself to fit Hollywood standards. she also talks about how the playboy mansion is fake too. it seemed so perfect while attending her first party there but then after moving in she realized that it was old and dingy. the carpets stank, the furniture was broken and the paint was peeling. Hugh Hefners is always talked about as this huge tycoon but Holly shines light on what it was really like. By the time she moved in Hefner’s business wasn't doing so well causing him to be nitpick about money. He was even having to rent the mansion from a holding company because he could no longer afford to own
