I’m not your perfect Mexican daughter by Erika L. Sanchez was a book that discussed conflicting topics. This book was a young adult fiction novel with 354 pages. It was about Julia Reyes and her life after her “perfect” sister died and her journey in finding out how imperfect she actually was. Consequently many opinions can be made for this story. In this book I liked how honest the story is.I liked it because it gave an inside view of what can go through not only a Mexican, American's mind, but also a young woman about to go to college, who has responsibilities or obligations to her family.I also enjoyed how Sanchez portrayed the characters. She made the strict, religious and old fashioned Mexican parents without it being much to stereotypical. Another thing I liked about his book is how she used Julia's sister Olga's death to have a “perfect” example to compare Julia to but at the same time show readers who Julia is and the struggles she faces having someone to live up to without that person actually being there.There were multiple thing to relate to and enjoy while reading.

In the story a few major themes are brushed upon .It talks about and gives a small example of anxiety ,abuse of various different kinds, suicide, immigration, feminism,sexuality, and a few minor topics like relationships,confidence, courage and struggles of regular life.The effect may not be great as it was mentioned earlier, it wasn't talked about in much detail, but it was put out there and made aware. It appealed to me in both an emotional and logical way. I myself suffer from some of these things and found it quite refreshing that someone feels and thinks the same way, real or
