“Inside Out” by Francisco Jimenez is a realistic short story about a young first grader who learns to go to school for the first time. In the beginning, Francisco did not understand English. His brother, whom was the first to go to school in that family, gave him a bad interpretation of school. Francisco went to his first grade class and feared many things. Soon, Francisco was in school. In Francisco’s class, there was a caterpillar that seemed to be very intriguing to him. Francisco could not understand the teacher and got in trouble for speaking Spanish. In the end, Francisco’s experience at school turned around. He won an award for one of his drawings, and instead of keeping the drawing, Francisco gave it to Curtis, a popular boy who was very mean.
