Not only is Into The Killing Seas a great book, but it also is surprisingly accurate with its history. As I have researched the real life story behind this book is the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. This is a real life event that occurred slightly after midnight on July 30, 1945. The USS Indianapolis was hit by two of six torpedoes fired by a Japanese submarine. As described in the book, the Indianapolis was transferring crucial parts to the first atomic bomb “Little Boy” from Guam to Leyte. Unfortunately, as I mentioned previously the Indianapolis was sunk midway by a Japanese submarine. However, most historical fiction books such as this one, have fictional main characters too. In this novel the main characters are Patrick and Teddy O'donnell
