Nicholas Carr’s “ Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, published July/August of 2008 states his opinion that Google is making us stupid. Carr states that we have become lazy and very reliant on the internet, which has changed our way of thinking and our ability to focus. He provides many facts and opinions of peers to back up his position on the topic.
When you first come across the title you can imply that it’s going to discuss technology and the internet. The title is a question which makes you think and question yourself about the subject and topic stated. Is Google making us stupid? You begin to think about the amount of time you devote to technology and how consistent it is in your life.

When he talks about this he explains that the reason he believes this is happening is that they have become more reliant on the internet and it’s speedy ability to find research and what they’re looking for on a specific topic. After that, he begins to broaden the source to all technology and not just the internet anymore.
After reading the essay I wouldn’t say that Carr necessarily answers the question “Is Google Making Us Stupid? In my opinion, he presents reasons on why he believes it is true, but not enough facts that it is a real problem. He says the internet has become a more accessible tool for us to use and we have taken advantage and it has started to affect the way we think.
In the last paragraph Carr uses a quote from “Kubrick’s dark prophecy: as we come to rely on computers to mediate our understanding of the world, it is our own intelligence that flattens into artificial intelligence”, I would say that this quote is an example of how we have become so reliant on technology because it has become more advanced to do things we should do on our own, which in turn makes us lazier but not necessarily more
