Rose’s Run by Dawn Dumont is an excellent book that is about a character named Rose Okanese who has to tackle many life problems after her husband cheats on her as well as leaves her and her two daughters. This book takes place in a reserve located in Saskatchewan in modern day Canada. The author did a fantastic job at describing every little detail in the scenes which really helps the reader imagine what was in the setting. One good example of a description is “Rose stood on her front steps looking at the moody sky. Nightfall was coming on and she was dreading it....
The book I chose was Code Talkers the book is about the Navajo Marines of World War Two. The writer of my book, Joseph Bruchac writes books relating to indigenous people of America, He also focuses on Anglo-americans and Natives. The reason i chose this book is because it is a fictional book but is based on Facts. So when you read the book your learning information but it’s not boring you because it’s has that fictional story to get you interested in the book.
"Brothers are the Same” by Beryl Markham is a short story in which the main character, 16-year-old Temas has to prove his manhood by slaying a lion in front of other men, including his enemy, Medoto. However, once the altercation is about to begin, Temas realizes that he is much more afraid of failing and being embarrassed than he is afraid of the lion itself. The story “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing is about 11-year-old Jerry, on an English beach vacation. While there, he ventures to a bay, where he finds several other boys playing. They show Jerry how they can stay underwater long enough to swim through a cave and come out of the other side, causing Jerry to feel isolated.
The book blood on the river is about Samuel who was an orphan. Samuel got transferred to captain smith as a page and they sailed to the new world with some other colonist. Jamestown conflict was to survive because the colonist had to get there own prey and build shelter. Samuel was aggressive Charaterin the beginning of the book, he was caring in the middle of the book, and he was loving at the ending. Samuel was very aggressive in the beginning of the book “Blood on the river.”
This book took place in alaska, 1970s this was about four teens who’s paths intersected. Dora and her family’s life was hard because they grew up in alaska and had no money, anybody that does not have money their life is not going to be easy. Later on Dora's life starts getting little better when she finally gets adopted by a kind family in canada, but dora still does not feel safe with her father in prison, and knowing her mother is hopeless and can't do anything. Alyce’s family has separated also, but now she lives with her mother in fairbanks and goes to see her dad in the summer they go fishing a lot. I read the book The Indian School by Gloria Whelan and the genre is Biography. In my book there is 96 pages. According to goodreads.com someone wrote that “the book sends a good message about the importance of maintaining a person’s culture, especially for children. ”I think this would be a good book for 8-12 and it would be the perfect for these ages because it the vocabulary is not to hard and if you love read about story 's from the past this would be a great book for you. The protagonists in this book the is a girl named Lucy and a girl named Raven.
A group of boys from ages 6-12 crash onto an island without any adults. Two boys Ralph and Piggy find a conch shell on the beach. Piggy has asthma so Ralph blew the shell to find the other boys as soon as the boys are all together they elect a leader which Ralph ends up winning and Jack was put in charge of the boys who hunt for food for the group. The boys think there is a “beast” on the island. This book test the mental and physical emotions of the boys; they start to turn savage and argue all the time.
For this project, the book I chose was All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I think this is now one of my all time favorite books, too. I really loved it. The story is about high school seniors Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, who goes by Finch.
