Orcas were not the only animals at SeaWorld exhibiting aggressive behavior. Several instances have been documented in which dolphins have acted aggressively to both a SeaWorld trainer and SeaWorld patrons. According to USA Today’s article, “Captive animals ' attack on trainers and public” dolphins have engaged in aggressive behavior. “In 2000 a dolphin entangled a trainer in a net, spun her around and held her underwater during a dolphin capture exercise. The trainer suffered three factures and torn ligaments in her right arm.
As human beings we visit the Waikiki Aquarium and only see the place as a paradise home for the Hawaiian Monk Seals. We do not put ourselves into the perspective of the marine animal and see the aquarium through their eyes. My story, “Bumping Into Glass Walls” promotes the idea that we may think the Hawaiian Monk Seals enjoy the aquarium but that could be a false statement. We can come to a conclusion that the Hawaiian Monk Seals do not want to be at the aquarium but end up there because of threats in the Pacific Ocean.
The Odyssey is one of the most famous and oldest adventure stories. Summer of the Mariposas by Guadalupe Garica McCall is a lot like The Odyssey in many ways. It tells the story of Odilia and her sisters as they return a dead man to his family and make their way home similar to what Odyessus did in The Odyssey. During their journey the Garza sisters go through tests and trials that are similar to The Odyssey as well. Throughout their adventure the sisters follow the steps of ‘the hero’s journey’ since they are called to adventure, complete the final battle, and return home, more bonded as sisters than before.
Turning points can challenge your life at times. It can make your life better or worse. This idea comes up in Hatchet, a fiction by Gary Paulsen, Guts, a non-fiction by Gary Paulsen, and Island of the Blue dolphins, a fiction by scott o’dell. These stories all have turning points that affect them in the same way, doing so, they change their lives and things around them.
I think that SeaWorld is an amazing facility. I love the fact that they rescue sea creatures from their inevitable death. I love the fact that children love to come here. I love the fact that this place causes children to subconsciously learn something. I love to bring my kids here on the weekend to watch the shows that the trainers put on with the orcas.

Dylon. G Mrs.Hornseth Period:4 Bottlenose Dolphins The history and traits and what a dolphin looks like is what this rough draft is going to be mainly about. Dolphins have a big reputation for having lots of curiosity. Some people thought that dolphins were smarter than humans considering that they have more lumps and a bigger brain.
The incredibly famous, Stephen King, from Maine himself is featured within this book. His short story, “The Reach”, is actually a body of water that separates the mainland from Goat Island. 95-year old Stella, with deteriorating health, sets off to cross the Reach to the mainland for the very first time because she never felt the need to before. Everything she’s ever needed to survive has been on the island. This goes to shows that many who live on the coast are isolated from the rest of the world but make do with what they have by coming together as a community.
The Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is one of the largest of the Cetaceans. They are fairly well known, even outside of the scientific community. They are identifiable by their dark grey dorsal color, white underbellies, very long pectoral flippers and by their habits of breaching and raising their tales above the water before diving. Their range expands tropical, temperate, and sub polar waters all around the world. They migrate in search of breading grounds and feeding grounds.
SeaWorld has been in the spotlight for several years now. Whether it is negative or positive publicity, someone is talking about SeaWorld; from the new animal births at their facility, killer whales attacking their trainer and the sudden unexplainable deaths of many of their animals. In 2013 the documentary “Blackfish” explained how SeaWorld’s animals and staff are really treated. Since the release of Blackfish, SeaWorld’s image and attendance has gone down the drain. SeaWorld San Diego’s attendance is down 12% and SeaWorld Orlando is down 8% (Weisberg, 2015).
“A long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale. Since then, in every generation of my family, the first born son has carried his name and become the leader of our tribe... until now” (Caro & Sanders, 2003). Whale Rider is the story of a girl, Pai, whose twin brother and mother die in child birth. Koro, Pai’s grandfather and leader of the Maori tribe, is devastated that their future leader has died. Years later Koro is determined to find a leader and begins to teach and train the boys, in which Pai is not allowed to join because she is a girl.
Whale Rider is the story of a young girl, Paikea, who has found her destiny following in the footsteps of her ancestors to be the chief of the tribe; these chiefs have always been men, and Paikea is put to the test to see if she is able to fulfill this position. This long line of chiefs have all experienced ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ the adventure that consists of the stages one must go through to become a hero. In Niki Caro’s Whale Rider, Paikea transforms from a young girl to the chief of the tribe when she walks down the beach and decides to climb onto the back of the whale, because she is accepting her destiny as the chosen one of the family, and despite the fact that she is struggling through this experience, she is still stepping up to the plate and willing to do this for her family which is what makes her a recognizable hero. Paikea’s journey as a hero began because originally, she was born as a twin. Her twin was meant to become the next chief of the tribe, but he died at birth and took her mother with him.
“A moving and unforgettable story.” This is the review from ALA Booklist about The Island of Blue Dolphins. In 1835 an Indian girl named Karana was left on the Island of Blue Dolphins alone after her tribe was rescued by white men and taken off the island. The Indian girl was left to survive on her own until she was rescued 18 years later. The Island of Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell is a historical fictional story about that indian girl and her survival, her loss, and her unusual friendship with the island’s animals.
SeaWorld is a billion dollar company based in the U.S. They specialise in the taking care of animals, such as killer whales, dolphins and sea lions. They have over 67,000 animals in their care and are rescuing more and more every day. Despite common belief, SeaWorld does not abuse the animals themselves. The workers of SeaWorld try their best every single day to look after every species of animal, and in return, are now being hassled and abused for it.
There are many conspiracy theories that exist in our world today. A few examples include the planes crashing into the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2011, the Sandy Hook school shooting and the moon landing. A conspiracy theory is often defined as an event or situation that involves an illegal or harmful act by the government or some other powerful player. The term ‘conspiracy theory’ carries with it a derogatory connotation. I do not personally believe in the idea of conspiracy theories because I am someone that believes what the government has to say, although at times they are wrong.
