In the opening portion of the article, “It’s a Flat World, After All” written by Thomas L. Friedman, a short segment from Christopher Columbus’s journey to the new world was featured to open this article depicting two sides. One stating, “The world is round.” and the other stating, “The world is flat.” This article also illustrates how technology and geoeconomics is modifying the world in which we live in. Because technology is rapidly increasing, they acknowledge this anomaly as a “flat” world. Friedman has included various examples from the previous century such as 10 events that assembled right around the year 2000. For example, Friedman’s article has various points in which he states how the world is flat due to events and forces that came together. He was claiming how technology has brought us extremely far from the early 1990’s. When Hougland was explaining the internet of things, he was describing how something so small can have such a large impact in our lives. For instance, there was an occasion where Hougland’s arm band caught something very serious and life threatening while he was asleep. Hougland was having a heart attack. However, his arm band recorder all of his vital signs and sent them electronically to his medical provider. Once his doctor finished evaluating his data, the doctor suggested that he would be rushed to the hospital. This small device had saved Hougland’s life. Technology has come increasing far since the early 1990’s, which supported Friedman’s claim regarding how society truly doesn’t understand how crucial technology has materialized in people’s day to day
