What would you do if you came home to your deceased friend? Ebenezer Scrooge’s late business partner Jacob Marley came back to warn Scrooge. When he came Marley was wearing chains, these chains represented all of the mistakes he made while he was living. But he did not just come back to say hi. Marley came back to warn Scrooge, he warned him that he needed to change or he would to end up like Marley. The overall reason for the chains and what the mean were that they are a warning to Scrooge saying this is how you will get up. You will end up with a link to a chain with every mistake that you make. Jacob Marley came back to warn Scrooge, but when he came back he was wearing chains. He wanted to warn him that if he didn’t clean up his act he was going to end up dead and in chains like him. When the ghost of Christmas future comes it shows that Scrooge is dead giving him further warning. Then the story goes on to say, "that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world -- oh, woe is me! -- and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!" Marley is warning him to be kind and not mean all the time so he does not end up where Marley is. All in all the chains that Jacob Marley are very significant to the book. The chains that he wearing signify all of the mistakes he has made in his lifetime. When he goes to Scrooge wearing his chains he warns him. Marley tells him that if he continued to act how he does that this is how Scrooge will end up. Later in the story Christmas yet to come shows Scrooge dying giving him furthermore
