The Laura Rivers’s Ethical Dilemma is about a two-year-old boy named Tyrone who bites other children when he is upset or excited. After the teacher, Laura speaks about Tyrone’s behavior with his parents she learns that Tyrone is treated harshly at home. The mother warns the teacher if Tyrone displays any other behaviors, she and her husband will deal with it. Reading the dilemma is disheartening. Tyrone displays rough behavior because he is used to poor treatment at home. After reading the dilemma I believe that Tyrone is facing abuse at home. A common sign of child abuse is a change in behavior which can include anger and hostility which Tyrone displays.1 This behavior is seen as normal to Tyrone because his role models participate in abusive behavior. I decided the best option was to learn more about the situation by sitting down with the parents. If the teacher had any suspicion that Tyrone was being abused at home, she should contact outside services. The philosophical principle that aided in solving this dilemma was rightness of action. As a teacher, if there is any harm inflicted on a child in their classroom it is their obligation to act. In this case the teacher needs to contact outside services because she knows that a child being treated harshly at home is wrong.
