Steroids are becoming more popular in major sports, and athletes use them to get an edge on their performance. In Zev Chafets article, “Led Steroids into the Hall of Fame”, Chafets gives great examples using logos of how steroids are used in major sports and how we should accept their use. Chafets explains that we should accept steroid use, for example, in major league baseball, and let the athletes be eligible for the Hall of Fame. To begin with, many major league athletes use substances that help them perform better and make them feel better. To be an athlete in a high league, pressure is always on and the performance really matters. For example, Chafets mentions, “Since the dawn of baseball, players have used whatever substances they believed would help them perform better, heal faster, or relax during a long and stressful season”(3). Most athletes will use substances that will help them perform better and release their stress. A lot of people do not understand how hard it is to be an athlete and how much pressure they go through. Chafets believes, that athletes should be able to relieve their stress and take necessary substances to perform better. Most athletes will know the risk they are taking by using these substances and their chances of getting caught and kicked out of the sport but they will still be using them. For example, Chafets states, “Like it or not, chemical enhancement is here to stay. And it is as much a part of the national game as $5.50 hot dogs, free agency, and Tommy John elbow surgery”(7). Chafets means that steroids will not go away and will always be used by athletes that will want to perform better.
