Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, What makes someone a good parent? Identify the traits of a good parent and determine if Mia or Mrs. Richardson is the better parent. A good parent is a person who takes care of their children and is worried about them. A good parent loves their children more than anything and they also value their kid’s opinions therefore Mrs.Richardson is a better parent. Mrs. Richardson is always worried about Izzy. She is always worried about Izzy because she thinks that Izzy might be a little better than her other children. Truth be told, her mother was harsher on Izzy: always criticizing her behavior, and always less patient with her mistakes and her shortcomings. Pg. 79 -. Mrs.Richardson “was harsher on Izzy” and she was always expecting Izzy to do more than her siblings because she had higher expectations for her.Izzy would get mad about that because she thought that Mrs.Richardson was just being rude to her. Mia and Pearl do their own separate thing most of the time. She doesn't want to get a real job, and because of that sometimes she can’t fully provide for the family. “Why doesn’t your mom get a real job?” Moody asked Pearl one afternoon “I bet she could get more hours a week. Or maybe even a full-time spot at Pearl of the Orient, or some other place.” pg:27. Moody asked Pearl “Why doesn’t your mom get a real job?” because when he saw what her mom did, he realized that it wasn’t enough to support their family. Letting Pearl do this will impact her behavior with people. “Pearl snatched the textbook from her mother’s hands and threw it across the room, where it left a black smudge on the wall.” pg:253. Her behavior keeps worsening throughout the book as we can tell, “Pearl snatched the textbook from her mother’s hands and threw it”. This is a problem with their relationship and the lack of parental guidance that when Mia tells Pearl to do something she throws a fit
