“cut this filthy hair right back to half an inch. He would like to have a bath, a proper wallow with soap. He passed his tongue experimentally over his teeth and decided that a toothbrush would come in handy too. Then there were his nails--”, “Ralph planned his toilet.” Ralph is for some reason just now taking note of his/the boys disheveled and filthy states. I feel that besides the fire and making shelters this is one of Ralph's attempts to stay civilized. While all the other barbaric boys were perfectly fine running around with their filthy skin, Ralph, one of the only sane ones on the island, wants to stay clean. This is also seen in chapter 5 when he tells the children to stop treating everywhere as their bathroom and to start going …show more content…

Jack and his hunters descend upon a sleeping sow and her piglets and then much like barbarians ambushing a sleeping village they attacked the sleeping sow and piglets. They killed the sow by shoving a spear “Right up her ass!” and then chased after and killed the piglets. Afterwards they decapitated the sow and put her head on a stick and rubbed her blood on eachothers faces. This is without a doubt the most evil and barbaric the boys have been yet but if my prediction about Piggy is true then this won't be the most evil thing they've done by far. “Only Piggy could have the intellectual daring to suggest moving the fire from the mountain.” The boys and Jack could probably thrive by themselves if they weren’t missing one thing, Piggy. Piggy has made or had a part in creating many of the decisions on the island. I believe that this was a way of dehumanizing him to make him seem all the more savage to the reader. If it was then it worked because personally when I hear “The Chief”, I don’t think of a malnourished boy with a sharp stick. Also it shows how dictatorial Jack has become. He now orders his men to not call him by his name as if they are not worthy. The name “The Chief” bears the same kind of power that “The Emperor” or “The King” does. “Might it not be possible to walk boldly into the fort, say-- "I've got pax," laugh lightly and sleep among the others? Pretend they were still boys, schoolboys who had said, "Sir, yes, Sir"--and worn caps?” Why does Ralph even bother thinking that at this point in the novel. The boys who “were still boys, schoolboys who had said, "Sir, yes, Sir"--and worn caps?” are long gone. They were replaced by howling, murderous and bloodthirsty savages. Not only have they killed two people, but they’ve done things like sacrifice, painted themselves and danced in response to weather. They are literal savages and to even think about trying to reason with the cap wearing schoolboys that they once were is absolute insanity. In fact he’s already tried boldly walking into the fort and all that happened was Piggy died and Samneric were captured. What makes him think that walking
