Love That Dog by Sharon Creech is about a boy named Jack, who thinks poetry is for girls, but sitting in his classroom and imitating poetry he learns that he can use poetry to write and remember his dog Sky. The target audience for this book is for student’s grade 3-6 who are learning about poetry. This book can be used as an introductory to poetry. The first imitation poem I wrote “Those Winter Sundays” Robert Hayden was “Sunday Morning Pancakes” so I understood Jack when he was having a hard time, writing poetry is difficult and it takes a lot of patience and practice.
