The Corrupt Bargain The election of 1824 was undoubtedly unique, but it seems it may have been the result of a corrupt bargain that John Quincy Adams himself had set up. The election consisted of four different candidates; William Crawford from Georgia, Speaker of the House of Representatives Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams from, and Andrew Jackson from Tennessee. Jackson had a lot of support from the voters because of his role in the battle of New Orleans.
Many activists nowadays use social media to spread their message and get people to join their cause, but will it actually go anywhere? Malcolm Gladwell answers this question in his article “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not be Tweeted,” where he discusses the impact of social media on the ability of a revolution to actually make any change in society. Gladwell’s view is that social media, while useful in many ways, will never be able to effectively start and maintain a revolution. He presents a convincing, well written argument that plays on the logic and emotions of the readers, effectively pulling them in and persuading them to agree with his points.
Malcolm Gladwell uses famous photograph in the history of the American Civil Rights Movement that was taken on May 3, 1963, by Bill Hudson to demonstrate that even though underdogs are outnumbered along the journey they learn a few things about fighting giants. In 1963 Martin Luther King came to Birmingham, Alabama to take fight against city’s racist police commissioner Eugene ”Bull” Connor. The picture taken in 1963 was of a young teenager being attacked by a police dog. The well dressed boy seeming to be leaning into the dog, his arms limp to his side, calmly staring straight ahead as though he is saying,” Take me, here I am, expresses Gladwell.” Even to this day this photo has not lost it’s power to shock.
Changes are made spontaneously today, either due to creativity or innovations. However, do all changes make a benefit for the people in the community? That is where Malcolm Gladwell gives the reader a detailed understanding of how the change in the usage of social media flawed the society in a crucial way. Malcolm Gladwell writes an essay called Small Change, where he compares the activism in the segregation time period and the current time period. The social media has made us, humans, connect with each other less and less.
So, they can improve the odds of adolescents getting sufficient sleep so they can thrive both physically and academically. I agree with this source, starting schools later could enhance student’s school performance academically and athletically. Starting school too early are preventing many teenagers from getting the sleep they need to start off their day. I aim to using this this source to support my claim as to why students need more sleep and how it would affect them throughout the school day. In “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier the coming of age short story where a now grown up Lizabeth reminisce her childhood especially going into Ms.Lottie’s garden. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
