It was an informative piece aimed at breaking down the problems of college athletes switching universities. To elaborate, the transfer portal is a term coined by college sports where athletes looking to leave their team can then enter their name into a database for opposing coaches to recruit them. The issue that arises now is that players aren’t required to sit out a year for reasons of eligibility, and athletes are seen as lazy by cutting corners. Another tool that is utilized within the reading is the appeal to logic. Logic is used to present an argument clearly and rationally because it makes the information easier to understand and digest. Though it is seen multiple times throughout, one example is towards the end where he paints a picture of the duality between player and coach. The article states, “Coaches who are paid to win may not invest in developing those they see as ‘future’ contributors, while players who are looking for the shortest route to the pros may not invest in learning how to earn their place in the starting lineup,” (Yaeger).
