Do you know, that your personal information is readily available for sale? In a New York Times featured article, “Mapping and Sharing, the Consumer Genome”, Natasha Singer (2012), attempts to explain how the US Internet and electronic systems have made us the most intimately surveyed people in a Free World, (pg.425). The use of personal data threatens people’s jobs, reputations, and future opportunities. The Consumer’s personal information is analyzed and sold to those who want detailed real-time profiles of who we are, including the health of our minds and bodies. This act has been made easy by one of America’s successful leading companies called Acxiom. Acxiom creates and sell information that are more intimate, detailed personality and behavioral portraits than our own mothers or analysts might know about us (and would never share). The purpose of Natasha singer’s article is to inform the general public about the business exploits achieved by data processing companies with Consumers personal information, with/without their consent. This information was effectively conveyed with an informative, optimistic and persuasive tone, such as, “it knows where you live, and it knows what you do”.
