In the story of Shadehill by Mark Hitz revolves around a family who is suddenly looking at the death of Ophelia who was a twin sister to Patsy in the family. Although the loss of Ophelia was an accident that could have got avoided if Ennis had got himself some glasses to saw. Since Ennis did not, unfortunately, he shot Ophelia from far away thinking she was beaver. At the time Ennis and the others considered it an exceptional shot from where Ennis was standing. Which creates a problem for the family when they go to look for Ophelia and Ennis finds her dead in the lake near where he said he shot the beaver. While in these times of reminiscing before the accident of Ophelia it detailed how the family interacted with one another through kindness and respect. In the meantime, the compassion and respect for each other created a cheerful mood just by relaxing with relatives and telling stories even if the story is one that has been heard many times before. However, it was unexpected evened though “this was not the first time Ennis’ hubris and pride had ruined someone, and the brothers began unleashing their worst memories in a brotherly language, in storied code” (Hitz 216-217). By losing Ophelia, it brought about emotional scars leading some of the relatives to talk wickedly about Ennis. Some people would consider it to get viewed as bringing out the worst in people in an unexpected way. Unfortunately, the emotional effect of a lost loved one is painful creating a variety of ways to express how the person chooses to deal with what happened. Despite the fact the relatives know what happened to Ophelia they decided not to view Ennis the same way they had before Ophelia’s death which had left an emotional scar on them. Making the relatives not want to be around each other and to shun Ennis for what he has done.
