Star is a tv show that began in 2016 and was created by Lee Daniels. Lee Daniels created both Star and the hit show Empire. Star is about three women who get together to form a musical group in Atlanta. This group includes a sister combo, one black, Simone and one white Star, and a rich black girl, Alexandra. Star attacks and shows the imbalances of topics like sexuality, race, gender, and class. Sexuality is shown through the Godmother's daughter being a transgender and how Simone is a lesbian. Race is shown through African-American police brutality and the fact Star is the only Caucasian in the group. Female empowerment is conveyed through sexual and physical abuse by men. Lastly, class is shown through how Alexandra came from a rich family, while Simone and Star grew up in foster homes. Star attacks racial and gender topics that are in modern media. Throughout the first season, Alexandra's boyfriend was a strong advocate about police brutality and the unfairness African-Americans were treated in their community. Alexandra comes from a rich background and at first doesn’t understand the struggles Star and Simone went through. The blind viewing from Alexandra is refer to what Gregory Mantsios discusses in "Media Magic: Making Class Invisible". He discusses how media portrays poverty has non-existent and the reason why people have troubles believing the struggles of people in poverty (Mantsios). Also, class is shown through one of the antagonists, a rich white woman. This character was corrupt with power and money and she felt like she can get away with anything. Star entered her life when she started dating her abusive son, that has anger management problems. The mother knew that her son was abusing Star but thought nothing about it because she viewed Star as white trash and didn't want to ruin her son's
