Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) is a strategic process used to improve the health and the quality of life for the community residents. The MAPP approach was created by National Association of County and City Health Officials (NAACHOs) in a collaboration with the Public Health Practice Program Office, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The MAPP process should include local health officials, representative of CDC, representative of the community, and academician created MAPP (NACCHI, n.d.). Because this will provide many funding resources to the program and that will have a role in improving Chicagoans’ health and their quality of life. It’s important for the participants to know the needed resources and determining the sources to meet these needs. Chicago Department of Public Health is driving the MAPP process, the critical issues that need to be addressed by MAPP process are unemployment, uninsured population, housing overcrowding, chronic diseases, cancers, violence, mental health, communicable disease control and prevention, immunization coverage, sexual transmitted diseases, mother’s and baby’s health, adolescent health, obesity/overweight, tobacco use, environmental health, drinking water quality, air quality, crime and traffic safety (The Chicago Plan for Public Health System Improvement 2012-2016, 2012).
