The Most Dangerous Game, a short story by Richard Connel, tells the story of a man named Rainsford from New York who is a big game hunter on a yacht. Rainsford went through multiple conflicts throughout this story. At first, he was traveling to Rio De Janeiro with a man named Whitney, but it did not go as planned. Rainsford meets a man on an island named Zaroff, who is also a hunter. The conflicts held between the two men and how they deal with them greatly advances the story by showing the emotional strain that being a hunter places on a human being. Zaroff and Rainsford get along at first since Zaroff has read all of the books Rainsford has published about hunting, but then Rainsford gets a weird feeling after they had dinner and Zaroff was carefully observing Rainsford. In the story, Rainsford finds out that Zaroff also hunts men because hunting animals became too easy for Zaroff. Then, the new conflict soon began when Rainsford wanted to leave, but the only way out was to escape Zaroff. In the short story it is stated "He stood there, rubbing his injured shoulder, and Rainsford with fear again gripping his heart, heard the general's mocking laugh ring through the jungle"(8).
