There is much controversy over the correct disciplinary actions for kids. If one disciplines their kids too little, they could turn out to be spoiled and entitled, but if one disciplines them too much, they could become rebellious and act out more often. Experts do not have a specific answer as to which strategy is most effective when teaching a child right from wrong. Although, new studies have shown that numerous amounts of parents are very unknowledgable about how quickly their child develops, which can lead to disciplinary problems. Using logos, this jumps the audience right into the issue at hand of whether or not spanking is successful. The author goes on, expressing that although a several parents spank their kids, most of these parents believe that form of physical discipline is ineffective. A survey taken by Zero to Three, a nonprofit parental education committee, is discussed much through this article. Using the statistics this survey has provided is needed to strengthen her opinion on why spanking is useless, so she can convince the audience of this. And although “90% of parents say parenting is their biggest joy, 70% say it’s also their biggest challenge.” This use of logos not only informs the readers, but also adds pathos into the mix. Kids can feel sadness and fear at five months, which is much sooner than most parents thought. And they only begin understanding how to share and take turns at three or four years old, which is considerably later than parents thought. “Parents really overestimate just how much self control kids have in the early years,” which can lead to an abundance of frustration and anger, causing disciplinary problems.
