A Narrartive of the Life of Fredrick Douglass is an autobiography abouta self- freed slave, by the name of Fredrick Douglass. Fredrick Douglass was born into slavery. his birth name was Fredrick Augustus Washington Bailey. he was born in Talbot County, Maryland, not really sure if it was in 1817, or 1818. When he was, what the slaves called a young child, a lad, he was sent to work as a house servant. African American slaves that live on a plantation, were not know as human beings, they were more so treated like animals. Frederick Douglass talked about how food was thrown into troughs for them to eat like pigs with no eating utensils.

While a lad, Douglass was moved around a lot because slaves were loaned to others. one thing about Fredrick Douglass, he showed the personalities of slave owners, an the overseers of plantations. while reading i relized Douglass never lost his faith while suffering as a slave. having faith helped his get through all the crazy ordeals. …show more content…

While reading this book, i was very intrigued. The way that Mr. Douglass talks about being brought up in slavery (NFD pg 1-3), an the things he went through such as, knowing that his father could have been his master. he knew that his mother name was Harriet Bailey an the daughter of Issac an Betsey Bailey.(NFD pg1) reading things like that really moved me as a young reader not knowing much about Fredrick Douglass. It actually gave me a better understanding of what it might have been like growing up as an African American
