Summary and critique of How acidification Threatens Oceans from the Inside out Acidification has completely threatened the ocean. The ocean acidification is caused by the human activities to emit carbon dioxide into the ocean and react with seawater to form carbonic acid. The acid in the ocean can damage animal’s heath. Also the ocean acidification can cause the poor growth and reproduction of organism and make the animal health lower or make them lethal. There are five key impacts on causing the poor growth and reproduction of organisms. First, the ocean acidification limit the fertilization of organism and the quantity of sperm has decreased by 25 percent. The low sperm quantity could decrease the population of one species. Second, The Acidification impedes the larval to hatch. For example, …show more content…

Third, The acidification decrease the output of animals because adult animals could not grow well in the Acidification condition with lots of CO2 and therefore easily eaten by predators. Fourth, Acidification will restrain the immune system growth of animals and cause their populations declined. There some reasons about why organism looses their life. The first, marine animals cost lots of energy to balance their internal pH. If they hasn’t enough buffer molecules to reduce the pH declines, they will die. Second, ocean acidification limits the food choice for marine animals. For example, copepod species die when the pH of ocean has declined. At this time, other fish species rely on eating on copepod will also die because of lacking food. a) This strength of this research paper is that the author uses lots of valid examples to support his research. And also, the author provides some data make his research more reliable. For example, for telling the ocean acidification impact on the marine fertilization, the author gives some data to make the
