Odysseus for the first portion of the book had gotten himself captured by a Cyclops, not on purpose, the giant was unkind and threatened Odysseus and his men to eat them prompting Odysseus to trick the Cyclops offering it wine for which he downed the bottle of wine, the Cyclops has the lowest tolerance of any creature being loopy and ignorant after One human sized bottle.
Odysseus then proceeds to blind the Cyclops And escape on a ram tying his men to the sheep and he escaped underneath the ram the Cyclops Knew that his ram was lagging behind the herd normally being the first one out the ram was the last. When they are ready to leave they board their ship, as they were getting ready Aeolus gives Odysseus two gifts the first is the winds of westward travel towards the Island of Ithaca and in the other was the all of the terrible and stormy winds, A gift that I say is of questionable quality. Well as they set sail for Ithaca Odysseus leaves the bag alone without telling his crew what is in the bag or how dangerous it was. The greedy crew opens the bag believing it was gold, unleashing the storms. The storms blow them back to Aeolus, who refuses to help them further Odysseus now believes that his voyage is cursed.
