Okay For Now by Gary D. Schmidt has a lot of relationships between characters in the book. Some of the relationships may seem to start off rough, but in the end they come together for the better. The main character Doug has relationships with multiple characters in the story, and they may seem rough because just as things start going good for him something seems to go bad, but in the end everything will come together for Doug and his friends. Doug has a very good relationship with Lil. Doug and Lil have been going to the library, and they have went on delivery routes together lately. They have gradually got to become close friends, and this has importance because it helps Doug know people care about him. Lil values from Doug because she has someone to always go to, and she also has someone to hang out with. Doug values from Lil because she happens to be someone to keep him from doing wrong. This happens to be an important relationship because when Lucas came back from war he had been badly shaken up. Coach Reed, a war veteran, who also happens to be Doug’s gym coach, but Doug and Coach Reed did not start off to good, but toward the end of the book Doug talks to the coach asking him to help his brother Lucus so does not feel hopeless. Coach Reed agrees on doing this, and he agrees on giving Lucas a assistant gym coach job. Lucas was very happy about this, and Coach Reed and Lucas have been helping each other get better physically and
