A Younger Look on Life
My entire life has revolved being on the water and spending time with my dad and grandfather fishing, boating, or just enjoying the days outside. Very similar to how White describes it in his essay “Once More to the Lake”. White expresses his views as looking back on life talking about what he has been through and his experiences at the lake. Throughout the essay White tries to live out his life as an older man through the actions of his son. Unlike White I am not looking back on like but rather looking towards the future. I still have the time to experience all the wonderful things that take place at the lake. In many aspects I am very similar to White’s son. We both, son and I, have new things to experience, time to explore, and do not quite understand the reality of death.

Our views on things are very different. He sees things as never changing and time standing still. While I view it as time flying by and things are never constant. When dawn approaches I am up at first light, quick to start me day on the water. He is still sleeping and in no hurry to go (White 195). I hear the sound of the motor boats as exciting and new things to come. He hears them of change and the coming to an end of the peace and quiet (White 197). All of these things represent new adventures and new experiences in my eyes. Just like they do in the eyes of White’s son.
Being younger gives a unique benefit because we still have time to explore. White’s son and I have the curious nature that comes with being young. We have not gotten to see everything the world has to offer and that makes us want to get out there and see the beauty of nature. We also have that time to explore. We have are whole life a head of us. White is starting to run out of that precious time and lose his ability to explore. This makes White’s son and I so much more
