“Paul is Dead!” (Said Fred) was written by Alan Glenn. In 1969 there was a rumor that went around a college campus about one of the Beatles singers, Paul McCartney, was dead and died from a car crash 3 years prior to the rumor. In this passage Glenn has pointed out that McCartney’s death had been covered up, Fred LaBour figuring out the apparent truth, and the clues that were left about his death. Glenn stated from the article that McCartney’s death had been covered up. The apparent cover up kind of turned into a game of “guess what actually happened?” and was it true? The Beatles had a cover up by “finding a double to replace him” (Glenn 500) which also lead to the Beatles hiding clues in their music of what really happened. In the passage it said “John Lennon, who had it in mind to found a new religion with himself as god and the ‘reborn’ McCartney a Christ-like figure at his side” (Glenn 501). This quote is one example of fame getting to someone’s head and explains a little bit about what a person will go through just for more fame and attention all in one sentence. The overall passage as a whole did get its point across that LaBour found the reality of what happened and made the whole rumor spiral out of control and he even states in the passage that “the rumor will be with us as long as the Beatles are with us. ‘This will be a very long time’” along with the main point, the author made other indirect good points such as what fame can do to you as said previously. The author should have put in a little bit more of a “spice” to keep the readers on their toes, but all in all the passage was very
