Paulo Coelho was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947 and rose to fame from his books like The Alchemist, The Pilgrimage, Brida and many others whose 175 million copies have been sold. The Valkyries tells the true tale of Paulo's battle with self doubts and fears.
This book begins with the conversation between his master J. and Coelho when he gives his master the only manuscript of his recently written book "Alchemist". This book has Paulo as its main character. So does it discusses the Paulo's personal life, his habits and thing that we may found disturbing like his stubborn behavior. You will found a different Paulo in this book. If you have read previous book of Coelho than in this book your blind admiration for Paulo may shatter. Just because his private life is discussed in detail Two characters Paulo's wife and Magus Gene felt like aliens in this book. It seem as if they have nothing to with this spiritual and magical world. Some may found reading Christina more than Paulo. She is more interesting in finding herself than in magic. This is her spiritual journey. Most of the time she is shown discussing things in her mind making us feel like that she is an introvert. On the other than things like angels, magic and women in black who rode bikes in desert and also Gene may feel surreal but it is Coelho who makes these dark topics come to life. It feels as if he dwells himself into worse situations, drowning himself into darkness of failure but then suddenly he comes with a very encouraging quote, making the goose-bumps of reader to rise. We meet some sane characters like Gene and some strange like Valhalla. The reader may argue that it shows more Christian spirituality rather than spirituality in a singular context. You need to have an open mind to read it. If you do so consequently it will cause you to think and evaluate your life. It will also help you gain hope in life. For fans of spirituality it's just another gift from Coelho. Slow reading is recommended. It will surely make you think and raise questions.Some portion of book is frustrating like but overall Its light straight forward and reflective.You will surely found worth it for your time you spent reading it. Highly recommended for those who have read other books of
