The argument in David Eggenschwiler’s article tries to convince the readers that there is a deeper “psychologically complex dramatic monologue”(39) within the poem “Porphyria’s Lover”, by Robert Browning. Eggenschwiler brings up two critics interpretations, quoting their comments on the lack of a character driven piece that Browning is known for producing.
