This book goes in depth with explaining issues and how they can be resolved so that the audience can create ideas if they were in similar situations in their lives. For example in Preloved the main character Amy, is constantly having fights with her toxic best friend which is a position many people face today, teenagers especially. To over come this the author Shirley Marr makes Amy stand up to her best friend with confidence which is a great solution for a life lesson. Speculative fiction is like no other genre as even though most of the situations are some what based around a fantasy they are still so relatable. Another good example is when Amy is embarrassed of her mother as she is quite ‘different’ and ‘mysterious’ but then learns to treasure her personality. The life lesson in that example is instead of focusing on the negatives, focus on embracing the positives, which is a great moral to live your life. Speculative fiction is here to save our generation by teaching us new abilities or just generally improving old ones. For example books like Preloved have great sentence structure but also have extended vocabulary by using descriptive words such as. Most assignments are now done on our iPads which uses spell check, so our spelling isn’t as good, but genres like speculative fiction change that. A survey showed that 1/3 of teenagers only rely on spell check to spell simple and complex words. All speculative fiction novels are filled with descriptive words to describe fantasy scenes and different worlds, even though some of the vocabulary is complex, it gets our minds thinking. Without speculative fiction we wouldn’t be as intelligent especially in literature elements which is why it’s by far the best genre for teenagers like you and
