In the true story of Prisoner B-3087, Yanek the young and willful protagonist shares his experiences from ten different concentration camps during the Holocaust. At the early stages of war, young Yanek and his tightly knit family lived in the city of Krakow, Poland. Once Germany started invading Poland, Yanek’s father told him the war would end very soon because the allies will fight back. If I were Yanek, I wouldn’t have listened to my father. Once the Nazis settled into Poland, new stringent Jew codes were created and it made life hard for the Jews, because their education, jobs, and lifestyle vanished. In his last days of Krakow, the Nazis snatched Yanek and deported him to Plaszow Concentration Camp. At Plaszow, Yanek worked at a tailor shop and other outside jobs to prevent the cruel commandant Amon Goeth. One consequence of speaking when not asked could be death. After his short, yet dreadful experience in Plaszow, Yanek was soon deported to both Wieliczka Salt Mine and Trzebinia Concentration Camp, where the kapos tortured him with pointless repetitive tasks. After his thoughts of surviving the Holocaust, Yanek had another thing coming for him. He was soon deported to Birkenau Death Camp, which at first he thought his chances of surviving were over, but it was soon relieved. Earning his tatoo of B-3087 at Birkenau made a mark on his life forever. I was reminded of another book which has a girl get a Holocaust tatoo. Afterwards, Auschwitz Concentration Camp was the next challenge for Yanek to face. I realized Aschwitz was the largest and deadliest camp of all. A friendship was made with a young man named Fred, who later died of sickness and brutalness from concentration
