Finding a biography to read was not a hard decision when the time came. The book Pujols: More Than The Game by Scott Lamb and Tim Ellsworth tells the story of a young man and all the difficulties he has faced before and since entering the MLB up to the late 2000s. The book also talks about his love for the Lord and how he has continued to lead his life in God’s image. Albert has been a guy I have looked up to since I started watching baseball about a decade ago. A few years ago when he left the St. Louis Cardinals, it was a rough blow on the city, its people, and the whole team. When Albert came to America from the Dominican Republic he spoke a broken English and had a hard time understanding much, aside from baseball. Baseball was a game Albert understood and loved right when he started playing it; his work ethic always proved it. One college coach Pujols had said, “This kid had a work ethic that I’ve never seen” (Lamb and Ellsworth 33). He had a natural passion for the game. In America, Albert saw early success in the game and others saw it as well. Many people knew he had the potential to be something great. I’m sure Albert knew he could be something special too, yet he remained humble through it all. One coach recalled after Pujols hit a home-run, “ Pujols hustled around the bases. No showboating” (Lamb and Ellsworth 6). Albert has never been one to brag making him a great model for young athletes and people all over the world. He continued to pour his time into the game and worked every day to get better. As can be seen now, Albert is a successful athlete in the game of baseball, but not once have you ever seen him boast about his on-field performances. Albert’s humbleness through success has made him one of my favorite athletes to watch in all of the sports. His ability to remain humble is rare to see from athletes nowadays, but it can definitely be seen in Pujols and this
