Over spring break I read The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. In my opinion this book was quite strange, but also very interesting. At first I felt bad for the people traveling to Mars because they were being killed for trying to establish relationships with the martians, but as I continued to read I starting feeling bad for the martians for the complete destruction of the planet. When the first few expeditions to Mars occurred, although the men who traveled there were killed, chicken pox was transferred to the martian population. The chicken pox did not resonate with the martians like it does with humans, and caused almost the entire population to die a painful death. So the first way I believe the people ruined mars is through the destruction of the inhabitants and population that lived on Mars. On the second trip to Mars, the men were put in an insane asylum and killed, because the martians believed they were using telepathy to create everything around them and get in the martians minds. The men told the martians about Earth and America, and ended up making many other martians go insane and think they were from America when they were not. I think overall the men came from a different planet and messed with the the mental state of the martians by putting songs they did not understand in their heads and stories of a different place. It was disturbing to the civilization they already had established. One example is Mr. xxx, he went to see the rocket the men told him about and ended up killing the captain because he thought he was using telepathy to create the rocket and his crew. After killing the captain, the crew did not vanish so he ended up killing the crew too. When the crew did not disappear he thought he was going insane and decided to kill himself too. Finally, I think the people ruined Mars when they came over and inhabited like it was there own. They completely destroyed any preexisting martian architecture, and built
