Summary Of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles

In the novel, The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury uses interesting characters and out of this world settings in order to communicate a few important truths to his readers. Mixing settings and characters like planet Mars, aliens, and humans, Bradbury gets his messages and motifs across in a discreet way. While reading, it is quite simple to get caught up in the events of the plot that are going on, but after reading, the truthful principles are what dwell in a reader’s mind. The most preeminent truth that I believe Bradbury is trying to communicate in this novel is that pride can ruin a beautiful thing, even a thing as beautiful as planet Mars. The absolute catastrophic aftermath of the humans settling on Mars is shown time after time in this novel, but first I will share the effects that the humans had on the planet alone. Imagine this: a new foreign race comes to Earth, and the life and surroundings you once knew are now gone forever, no turning back. How would that make you feel? If your answer is something along the lines of devastated, depressed, and anxious, you are not alone. These feelings are exactly what the Martians felt as the humans changed the planet they had once knew. In the novel, when the humans entered, they changed the buildings. They built huge towering cities out of materials from earth that the martian people knew nothing of. By doing this, the humans ruined the land of Mars that was once perfect for the martian life. Another thing that destroyed the land even more were the fires the humans set. Besides these things, Mars just did not look the same or feel the same. The humans decorated Mars in attempt to copy what things look like back home. These are all effects from the novel that the humans had on planet Earth alone.
